KOCHI: Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar said that all traffic signal timers from Thrissur to Kochi will be adjusted soon.
"More time should be given on the highway for the vehicle to flow. Vehicles going straight will be given priority. If drivers do not drive properly, action will be taken to slap fines against them. An App is being developed for that. The app will have a system where even the public can slap fines on drivers who drive recklessly. It will come into force within two weeks," Ganesh Kumar said.
The minister travelled through the National Highway to study the traffic congestion at signal junctions. The minister and his team inspected the signal junctions from Thrissur to Aroor. The minister first reached the Potta Pappali junction in Chalakudy, which witnessed several accidents in the recent past. The minister said that the traffic will be arranged in a new way here.
Following this, the minister inspected the Potta Ashram junction. "More time will be given to vehicles to pass on national highways. The Transport Department will recommend the National Highway authorities and the PWD to introduce time adjustments in the signals on the national highway," the minister said.
The final decision regarding adjusting the signals rests with the National Highways Authority and the Public Works Department. The signals will be adjusted based on the study report conducted by the minister and the officials of the Motor Vehicle Department.
