THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains will continue in Kerala in the coming hours. An orange alert has been issued in four districts today. Orange alert is in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The possibility of very heavy rains has been predicted in isolated places. IMD defines very heavy rainfall as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.

A depression in the Bay of Bengal made landfall in South Odisha near Gopalpur on the morning of September 27, 2025, and is currently over South Odisha. The system is expected to move westwards across South Odisha and Chhattisgarh and is forecast to weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.

A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea at high level on September 30. Under its influence, a new low pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal and Central Bay of Bengal. In this situation, Kerala is likely to receive light/moderate rainfall for the next five days. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph are likely today and tomorrow. Rain with thundershowers is likely.
