KOZHIKODE: One more person in Kerala has been confirmed to have Amoebic Meningoencephalitis. A 25-year-old Wayanad native who is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College has tested positive for the disease. With this, the number of people undergoing treatment has increased to eight. Yesterday, a 45-year-old Wayanad Bathery native was also diagnosed with the disease. Three people from Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, and two from Wayanad district, are currently in the hospital.
A seven-year-old boy from Kozhikode was also diagnosed with the disease a few days ago. The brother of Anaya, a nine-year-old girl from Thamarassery who died of Amoebic Meningoencephalitis, was diagnosed with the disease. This boy had also bathed in the pond near his house. Sanoop's daughter Anaya died of Amoebic Meningoencephalitis in Anappara, Thamarassery, on the 14th. Anaya and her siblings had practised swimming in a pond near their house three weeks ago. The health department's initial assessment is that this pond is the source of the disease.
An 11-year-old girl from Chelari, Malappuram, was also confirmed to have the disease on Wednesday. The child is currently undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The child was admitted to the hospital with a high fever. The child's swab was collected at night after symptoms were observed. The test was conducted at the Microbiology Lab of the Medical College. Health experts said that tests to find the source of the disease will be conducted soon.
