MALAPPURAM: Insider reports tell that Nilambur MLA P V Anvar has been assured of a Rajya Sabha seat by Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee. Anvar, who took over as the state coordinator of TMC, will most likely announce his resignation from MLA post on Monday. If he faces defeat in the by-election, TMC will consider his name for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat.
A five-member committee formed including National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee and Anvar will coordinate the work of the party in Kerala. Three Trinamool leaders will visit Kerala this month. Mamata Banerjee may also visit Kerala by the end of March.
Anvar who maneuvered hard for a congress entry was left aghast after the party delayed an immediate green signal. Meanwhile, Congress leader K Muraleedharan admitted to having difficulties in joining hands with TMC in Kerala. With Anvar siding up with TMC, the Muslim League in Kerala did a volte-face, and went back from their earlier held softer stance towards the Nilambur leader.
But questions remain. It is to be known whether Anvar will show the cojones to resign and face another election. Anvar may resign saying that the LDF government crucified him for giving more focus on the issues faced by the people of Nilambur. His presser on Monday would have answers to at least a few queries.
