PALAKKAD: Parents said children are scared even to go to school after a carol group was attacked in Puthussery. The statement of BJP state vice president C Krishnakumar on the incident has hurt our children and we are considering to file complaint, said the parents.

'Children are afraid of how their teachers and friends will look at them. Those saying that children studying in classes 6 and 7 will drink alcohol should think about it. They should understand that this is not UP' - said Jayadevan, Ajeesh, Jiju and Rajesh, the parents of the children who were in the carol group.

On Sunday night, Ashwin Raj (24) of Kanandithara, who was drunk stopped and beat a carol group consisting of ten school students at Surabhi Nagar in Kurudikkad. The police arrested him who is facing KAAPA on the same day and remanded him.

The CPM local leadership had alleged that Ashwin Raj is a BJP activist and that he beat them after seeing CPM written on the band. While explaining this, BJP leader C Krishnakumar asked whether the drunk going with the CPM area committee's band set should be considered a carol group. He later corrected his statement.
