THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The congress has expelled Rahul Mamkootathil MLA from the party soon after his anticipatory bail plea in the rape case was rejected. He was ousted from the primary membership. KPCC chief Sunny Joseph has released a statement on his expulsion. His expulsion was with the approval of the AICC. KPCC chief informed that it would be appropriate for him to resign on his own his MLA post. The court also rejected his demand to stay his arrest. So, he could be arrested at any time.
‘Rahul's expulsion was decided after holding talks with senior Congress leaders. The Congress party takes exemplary decisions in all cases. The party was waiting for AICC's approval. When allegations were first levelled against him in the media, Rahul was removed from the post of Youth Congress president. He was later suspended from the Congress party. He was expelled from the parliamentary party. When the KPCC got the complaint, it was immediately handed over to the DGP. People know that Congress will always take the right decision, unlike the CPM, which protects the accused in the theft case. This will not affect the elections in any way,' said Sunny Joseph.
