"People are struggling even if it rains just once': High Court criticizes government in strong language regarding waterlogging in Kochi

high-court

KOCHI: The High Court has criticized the government in strong language for failing to clean the drains in Kochi. The court also opined that "People are struggling even if it rains only once. Tired of talking to the government and the people concerned." Questioning why things are being done at the last minute, the court asked shouldn't there be a master plan for all this. The court also said that the measures to solve the waterlogging problems in Kochi should not be postponed because the counting of votes is tomorrow. The court's criticism was when it was hearing the petitions related to waterlogging in Kochi.

The court directed that the works, including the removal of garbage and silt from the canals, should be completed expeditiously. Last time, pre-monsoon garbage removal was done well, but this time it was not. The work is currently underway. Actions should be taken against littering. The court also ordered the corporation to take strong measures against the dumping of garbage, be it by individuals or institutions.

'Don't think that people will believe all this and remain silent forever. People remain silent because they have no choice. Is it not because they are ordinary people that you think this is enough? Would it have been done like this if it was a VIP residential complex ?' The court asked. The case will be heard again on Friday.
