NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has directed to appoint permanent Vice Chancellors in the state immediately. The apex court has instructed the Governor to issue notification. The present VCs can continue for the time being. The court also pointed that the Governor and the government should cooperate in the matter. The Supreme Court's direction is on the plea filed by Governor Rajendra Arlekar against the high court verdict expelling the VCs of Kerala Technological University and Digital University.
The Governor in his plea had sought a stay on the high court division bench’s order. The claim is that the UGC rules should be followed for the appointments of temporary VCs. The high court division bench had earlier directed that the tenure of temporary VCs should not exceed six months.
The division bench had also pointed that the delay in the appointment of permanent VCs would adversely affect the interests of students and the university's proceedings. The high court division bench had said in its order that there should be no delay in the appointment of permanent VCs.
