THRISSUR: A special investigation team was appointed to investigate the fake drug case in Chalakudy involving beauty parlor owner Sheela Sunny. The special investigation team was formed on the orders of the High Court. The investigation team is led by DySP VK Raju.
The Supreme Court had earlier rejected the anticipatory bail of Narayana Das, an accused in the incident. The court also verbally stated Narayana Das not to expect any sympathy from the court.
The court lashed out at Narayana Das for showing discomfort barely within 72 hours of his police custody and reminded that Sheela Sunny, who was implicated in the case, had to spend 72 days in custody over the fake drug case. The investigation team found that it was Narayana Das, a native of Tripunithura, who informed the excise officials about the drugs after placing them in Sheela Sunny's vehicle.
Narayana Das was a close friend of Livia Jose, sister of Sheela Sunny’s daughter-in-law. Das confessed to police that it was as per Livia’s request that he placed the fake LSD stamp on Sheela Sunny's vehicle and later informed the Excise about the situation.
Despite the medical examiner's findings proving the LSD as fake, the police deliberately hid the information. The whole incident created an uproar in Kerala and was studiously debated.
