THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Vizhinjam on May 2 to dedicate the seaport to the nation, the police in the capital are on high alert due to continued fake bomb threats. Yesterday, bomb threats were reported at locations including Raj Bhavan, the Chief Minister’s office at the Secretariat, the official residence Cliff House, the Traffic Commissioner’s office at Vazhuthacaud, and the Vigilance Tribunal at Thycaud.
Searches conducted by the bomb squad and police found nothing. In recent days, fake bomb threats had also been received at the district court, airport, and Thampanoor railway station. On the previous night at 11:34 PM, the Chief Minister’s official email received a threatening message, along with simultaneous threats sent to other locations. The threatening emails came from the address abdul_arulappadoss@hotmail.com.
The message claimed that a bomb would explode by 2:30 PM and demanded that the Chief Minister withdraw actions against the drug mafia. It also mentioned that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) containing RDX had been planted. However, police have not yet identified the origin of the email.
Tamil Nadu natives behind bomb threats?
Police suspect that natives of Tamil Nadu are behind the bomb threats. This suspicion arises because the messages refer to issues related to Tamil Nadu.
The Pahalgam terror attack is also mentioned. Cyber police investigations have so far failed to trace the IP addresses of the emails.
