THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala in January 2026. It is reported that the Prime Minister will personally announce the development plan to be implemented in the city of Thiruvananthapuram under the name 'Vikasita Ananthapuri'. However, the confirmation regarding Prime Minister Modi’s visit in January will only be made official later. PM Modi is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu for a party event on January 9. His Kerala visit will likely take place at the same time.
The Prime Minister had tweeted about the BJP's victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipality on the day the results were announced. The BJP, during election campaigning, had promised to bring the Prime Minister to the capital within 45 days of coming to power in the corporation.
The Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project and the Olympics venue were also major promises of BJP. Although the metro project is under the supervision of the Kerala government, it needs to pass the crucial hurdle of getting the approval of the central government. The BJP leadership thinks that the introduction of the metro, if it becomes a reality in the capital city during their tenure in the corporation, would further elevate the party's status among the populace.
Apart from the metro rail, the Prime Minister is likely to announce other projects and the development roadmap as part of the smart city. It is learnt that the Prime Minister will hold a separate meeting with the BJP councillors of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipality.
