THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the counting of votes is progressing in the state assembly elections, the ruling LDF is facing a major setback. The chief minister and a majority of sitting ministers are trailing in their constituencies. The LDF is managing to maintain leads only in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur presently.
Out of the 14 constituencies in Thiruvananthapuram district, the LDF is leading in seven. In the 2021 elections, the LDF had won 13 out of 14 seats here. In Kannur, the LDF is ahead in seven out of 11 constituencies, compared to nine seats won in 2021.
In all other districts, the LDF is trailing. From a position where it had hoped for continuity in power, the party now appears to be heading towards a significant defeat, according to the present trends. As per the latest figures, the UDF is leading in 88 seats, while the LDF is ahead in 48 seats. The NDA is leading in four seats.
