KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) looks prepared to investigate the conspiracy in the hand-chopping case of Professor T.J. Joseph. The investigation will also delve into the details of those who gave shelter and support to the accused to remain in hiding for 15 years.
Savad, a native of Perumbavoor, who chopped the hand of the Professor and threw it away on the road, was arrested after 13 years in 2024. Those who helped him during these 15 long years are yet to be identified. Apart from those who directly participated in the case, no one who took part in the conspiracy has been identified yet.
The NIA informed the special court that more time is needed to find those who helped Savad remain in hiding for a long time. The lawyer from the accused’s side alleged the NIA of trying to prolong Savad's trial.
Central agencies concluded that PFI continues to operate under the cover of other organisations despite being banned. The NIA investigation is also part of an effort to present evidence to support the continuation of the ban.
Prof. T.J. Joseph and his family had earlier expressed their dissatisfaction with the NIA and the central government for not finding the conspirators.
The investigation did not reach them because those brains behind the crime were powerful, said Professor Joseph. He expressed his relief and happiness over the NIA deciding to resume the case, though late.
