R Sreelekha walks out of BJP event after Union minister fails to mention her name

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a dramatic incident, R Sreelekha, the NDA candidate from Vattiyoorkavu, walked out of an election programme attended virtually by Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Sreelekha left the stage after the minister did not mention her name during his speech. Senior leaders later intervened and persuaded her to return to the programme.

The event had been organised as part of Sreelekha’s campaign. After inaugurating the programme online, Jaishankar, in his address, appealed to voters to support Rajeev Chandrasekhar. However, he did not mention Sreelekha or the Vattiyoorkavu constituency. Following this, Sreelekha boycotted the event and walked off the stage. She is reported to have questioned why she should attend a programme organised for her if her name was not mentioned while seeking votes.
