
MEPPADI: Lok Sabha Opposition Leader and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the housing complex announced by the Congress for the rehabilitation of Mundakkai and Chooralmala. The foundation stone was laid for 50 houses to be constructed in the first phase at Kunnambetta, Meppadi. At the ceremony, financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each was handed over to 40 building owners in Chooralmala.
Rahul Gandhi said he, along with Congress, will always stand with those affected by the shocking tragedy in Wayanad. The 100 houses announced by the Congress will be built promptly. The construction of the houses was delayed due to technical reasons.
“Wayanad battled the crisis together. I have visited the disaster area twice. I am yet to come out of the shock induced by the sight I saw that day. I realised that more help is necessary. That is why the Congress announced the rehabilitation plan,” Rahul said.
Priyanka Gandhi MP was the chief guest. Priyanka Gandhi's speech mentioned the names of those who were affected by the disaster, including student Hani, who lost everyone in his family, and Annaiyan, who lost his farm, land and income.
KPCC President Sunny Joseph presided over the function. Muslim League National General Secretary P. K. Kunhalikutty delivered the keynote address. AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, Deepa Dasmunsi, Shafi Parambil MP, MLAs P.C. Vishnunath, A.P. Anilkumar, I.C. Balakrishnan, T.Sidhique, P.K. Basheer, DCC President T.J. Isaac, Kozhikode DCC President Praveen Kumar, K.L. Paulose and others spoke.
