THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is likely to receive heavy rainfall in the coming hours. Following the rain warning, the IMD has issued a yellow alert in two districts- Alappuzha and Ernakulam. These districts are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall. Heavy rain refers to 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rainfall within 24 hours.
Light rain is also likely at isolated places across all districts of Kerala in the next three hours, according to the IMD. A low-pressure area lies over north Odisha, the northwest Bay of Bengal, and Gangetic West Bengal, and may weaken within 12 hours.
A cyclonic circulation has also formed over Myanmar’s coastal region and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move westwards and develop into a fresh low-pressure area over the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal by September 25.
Later, it is expected to intensify into a depression over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, near the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coast, around September 26. The system may make landfall by September 27, the IMD said.
In Kerala, light to moderate rainfall is expected over the next five days. Yellow alerts have been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam tomorrow, and for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur the day after.
