Rains to intensify in districts except two, weather department issues alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Widespread rain is likely to lash the state today. There will be heavy rain at isolated places. There will be rains in the state except in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam. Orange alert has been sounded in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. A chance of heavy rain at isolated places has been predicted.

Rain of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm is expected in 24 hours. Yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur and Kasaragod.


The warning is that there will be heavy rain in the northern districts today. There is a possibility of high waves and strong winds along the Kerala coast. Fishing is prohibited. A cyclonic circulation also exists in the vicinity of North Rayalseema. Rain continues as a result of this effect.


During the next three hours, there will be moderate rain with thundershowers at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod, strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph, isolated moderate rain in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Palakkad and a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
