Recommendation given to increase electricity tariff: Minister Krishnankutty

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister K Krishnankutty said in the assembly that the KSEB has submitted a recommendation before the Electricity Regulatory Commission to increase the electricity tariff. "The introduction of monthly billing is under consideration of KSEB. It is decided by the Regulatory Commission. No direction has been given to the commission for the same," the minister said during question hour.

Smart meters in phased manner

Electricity smart meters will be implemented in a phased manner. A tender has been floated for the installation of three lakh meters. This includes government, HT and EHT, and commercial customers. It will be completed by March 2026. At present, ToD meters are installed while providing a new connection to all the customers and changing the meter. As per the Centre's directive, the TOD tariff should be imposed on consumers other than agricultural consumers before next April.

Nuclear power plant: No decision taken

Minister K Krishnankutty informed the assembly that no policy decision has been taken on setting up the nuclear power plant. The KSEB has not identified any land for it, the minister said.
