'Religious fanatic who mocked Gandhi's murder'; Posters appear against Sandeep Varier in Thavanur

MALAPPURAM: In a dramatic twist, a protest poster appeared above a flex eulogising Congress leader Sandeep Varier in Thavanur.

“This land does not need a communalist who mocked Gandhi’s murder” This was the caption that accompanied the poster in Thavanur.

“The religious fanatic who called for a pogrom against Muslims and even called the Muslim League a dead horse is Thavanur’s enemy” Other writings also appeared across the constituency after rumours spread that Varier would be fielded by UDF here.

The Porukkara Mandal Congress Committee had installed a flex welcoming Sandeep Varier to the constituency. The flex was installed before an official announcement was made. Sandeep Varier joined Congress from BJP in 2025 after falling out with state leadership.
