KANNUR: Kodi Suni, the accused in the brutal murder of Marxist leader TP Chandrasekharan, was transferred from Kannur to Tavanur Central Jail. The swift action was taken after a report emerged citing Suni’s dubious drug deals inside the jail. Kodi Suni was brought to Kannur from Tavanur last January for the trial of the New Mahi double murder case.
The prison department's report revealed that it was the gang led by Suni who are controlling affairs of the drug trade inside the jail. Kirmani Manoj, a convict in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case, and Britto, an accused in another murder case, are Suni’s close accomplices. The report also suggests that the gangs enjoy the luxury of exclusive facilities, including the use of phones inside jail.
It is believed that Kodi Suni will have to endure a different life in Tavanur, unlike in Kannur. Kodi Suni has not been brought to the Thalassery court since he was caught publicly drinking near the court premises. It is also reported that the intelligence department is investigating whether Kodi Suni, who violated the conditions while on parole in Wayanad, went to Karnataka to deal in drugs.
