Rising toll: Idukki woman becomes Kerala's seventh snakebite victim in seven days

THODUPUZHA: Another snakebite fatality has been reported in Kerala. Visalakshi (75), a native of Kanjar in Idukki, died after being bitten while picking mangoes near her house. Though she was rushed to a private hospital in Thodupuzha, her life could not be saved. This marks the second death in the state today and the seventh snakebite fatality reported in the past week.

Kannur: Earlier this morning, 65-year-old Nabeesa, a native of Pattuvam, Taliparamba, passed away. She had been undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital since last Friday. It is reported that she was bitten by a Common Krait.

Kollam: In a separate incident in Kollam, a man named Sudevan from Ramankulangara was bitten on the leg while cleaning his house premises this morning. The snake is believed to be a Saw-scaled Viper. Sudevan was immediately admitted to the Kollam District Hospital, where he remains under observation. Doctors have stated that his condition is stable.


Ernakulam: A tourist from Coimbatore was also hospitalised today after a snakebite in Cherai. Sharmila (38) was bitten on her toe while staying at a local resort. She is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Manjali.


Alappuzha: Additionally, a 15-year-old girl from Eruva, Kayamkulam, who was bitten last Friday, continues her recovery at a private hospital in Nooranad. Hospital authorities have confirmed she is now out of danger.
