NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by former minister Antony Raju against the conviction in the evidence tampering case. The demand to remove the remarks of the high court was also rejected. The plea was considered by a bench led by Justice Dipankar Datta. The plea was filed seeking to stay the conviction in the case. Antony Raju had also filed a plea in the high court raising the same demand.
The high court was not ready to stay the three-year imprisonment awarded by the Nedumangad Magistrate Court. Antony Raju then filed a plea in the Supreme Court. The case alleged that Antony Raju tampered with the evidence kept in the court during his time as a lawyer to save an Australian national in a drug case. Following the conviction, Antony Raju was unable to contest elections.
