Scientific inspection soon at landslide area, KSRTC buses begin service through Thamarassery pass

LAKKIDI: Kozhikode District Collector Snehil Kumar said that a scientific inspection will be conducted soon at the landslide site at Thamarassery Pass. There will be 24-hour surveillance at the pass. The district collector ruled out any chances for concern.

Heavy vehicles will not be allowed at the landslide site at present. It is for the same reasons that traffic restrictions have been partially imposed in the region. The Kozhikode and Wayanad district administrations are coordinating the situation through active communication.

The collector said he was getting accurate details from the location site on an hourly basis, and he reasoned this for his delay in visiting the site.

“The sub-collector had visited the location, as it is not needed for the collector to visit everywhere. There is no need to create a fuss, as I have been monitoring the issue thoroughly.” Snehil Kumar visited the area at around 10:30 am on Friday. Geology officials were also with him.

Vehicles, including KSRTC buses, will be allowed to pass through the landslide-hit Thamarassery Churam Road in a controlled manner. The ban on multi-axle vehicles will continue. An online meeting chaired by the District Collector decided to allow vehicles to pass from both sides at regular intervals.

Tourists will be banned from the Churam Viewpoint. Parking and spending time here will be prohibited. A unit of the Fire Brigade will be deployed at the pass until the situation returns to normal. Lighting arrangements will continue.
