THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An intelligence report says that there was a serious security lapse over the convoy of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The findings indicate that security protocols were violated in several districts, including Kannur, Kozhikode City, and Malappuram, during the chief minister’s journey. The intelligence chief has submitted a report to DIGs and district police chiefs regarding the issue.

The lapses mainly occurred during events held on March 14, 19, and 22. The report criticizes that pilot vehicles moved without proper coordination in several places. Due to failures in route coordination by officials, there were instances where the chief minister’s vehicle got separated from the convoy, creating a vulnerable situation.

The report assesses that officials failed in effectively coordinating the route, despite the chief minister being under Z+ category security. The absence of proper supervision for route management also contributed to the lapses. The report clearly states that such security failures must not be repeated. All district police chiefs have been directed to exercise extreme caution in deploying security personnel and ensuring route clearance. The intelligence report comes at a time when political discussions about a possible change in government are active, and it emphasizes the need to strengthen the chief minister’s security.
