THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed that all government systems be fully prepared to provide medical assistance in connection with the explosion at a fireworks storage unit in Thrissur. He discussed the matter with the Chief Secretary. The Chief Minister also expressed condolences over the deaths.

He said that if needed, expert doctors from hospitals outside the state will be brought in to provide specialised treatment for those with burn injuries. All necessary steps for rescue operations are being taken. A special system has been set up to monitor the situation. Police, Fire and Rescue, and Health Department teams are working together on-site in coordination with the Revenue and Disaster Management departments.

So far, six deaths have been confirmed in the accident. More than 40 people are reported to be injured. Initial reports suggest that extreme heat may have caused the explosion. Many workers were present at the site at the time of the incident. Rescue operations are still ongoing. Among the injured is Satheesan, who was in charge of the fireworks. The license for the fireworks used in the Thiruvambady event is registered under Mundathikode Satheesan. Firefighters faced difficulty reaching the site due to narrow access roads, and they eventually broke a nearby wall to enter the area.
