Yellow alert; Heavy rainfall forecasted to drench state today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning for Kerala, predicting five days of continuous rain accompanied by thunder and lightning starting today. A cyclonic circulation in the Southeast Arabian Sea and the Maldives area indicates a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall until December 10th. Furthermore, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated in Kerala on December 11th and 12th.

In the immediate next three hours, Trivandrum, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts are likely to experience light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning. The region may also encounter strong winds up to 40 km per hour. The Central Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert in various districts, signifying potential weather risks.

08-12-2023: Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Wayanad

09-12-2023: Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad

10-12-2023: Yellow alert in Ernakulam and Idukki districts with a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall, typically ranging between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
