KOCHI: A woman was stabbed near the metro ticket counter in Ernakulam by her husband, who earlier created a ruckus at her workplace and bus stand. The woman, who suffered injuries to her stomach and hands, is undergoing treatment at the Ernakulam Medical College Hospital. The husband, Mahesh (39), a native of Edappally, Changampuzha, who created a terror atmosphere at the metro station with a knife, was subdued by the metro police.
Neetu (32), a native of Mullakkal, Alappuzha, was stabbed in the incident. The attack that terrified passengers took place at the Muttom Metro station in Kalamassery on Saturday evening. Neetu had been living at a relative's house in Thottakkattukara Aluva after a week-long dispute with her husband. On Saturday evening, Mahesh, who was drunk, created a ruckus at a private firm in Muttam, where Neetu works as an accountant. Mahesh was stopped by the woman's colleagues at the firm. In the evening, Mahesh threatened Neetu, who was at the Muttam bus stop, to travel back home after work.
In fear of attack from her husband, Neetu chose the metro for a safe journey back home. While she reached the ticket counter, Mahesh, who reached the spot following her, asked Neetu to collect his ticket as well. Neetu refused, and Mahesh responded by stabbing her. Neetu tried to escape but was stabbed in the left side of her stomach. While trying to resist further attack, the woman sustained injuries on both her hands. The Metro police present at the station subdued the assailant. He was then shifted to the Kochi Metro Police Station in Kalamassery.
The police said that Neetu has surpassed the scare and is currently in stable condition. Police said that Mahesh intended to kill his wife. Mahesh, a porter, and Neetu got married two years ago. After the marriage, Mahesh was injured in an accident and stopped going to work. Neetu moved to her relatives' house after Mahesh accused her of engaging in extramarital affairs.
