KOCHI: Actor and producer Soubin Shahir has been arrested in a financial fraud case. He was arrested in the case connected to the film Manjummal Boys. The police had earlier grilled the actor, his father Babu Shahir and Shawn Antony. The arrest of his father and Antony will be recorded soon. As the high court had earlier granted anticipatory bail, the three will be released on station bail.
A case was registered against the three producers and an investigation was initiated based on a complaint by Siraj Valiyathara of Aroor, who alleged that he was denied a profit share despite investing money for the project. Siraj said he invested Rs 7 crore in the film after being assured of a 40% profit share.
As per the court's order, the Maradu police conducted an investigation and filed a report against Soubin and others in the high court. The police report said the three had conspired and cheated the complainant. The accused then approached the high court seeking quashing of the case, but was rejected.
The police, who intensified the investigation, summoned the three for questioning on June 20th. However, the high court extended their time. When the case was considered, the court observed that it was a civil-commercial case and could not be treated as an ordinary criminal case.
