MALAPPURAM: The family has stepped forward making a crucial revelation in the incident where a youth committed suicide in Nilambur. Ratheesh of Pallikulam committed suicide by hanging on June 11. The family alleged that a four-member gang is behind the youth’s death. Ratheesh' mother Thankamani said that her son was honey trapped. His brother Rajesh also told media that Ratheesh committed suicide because of a four-member gang, including a woman, his neighbour.
The woman called Ratheesh home on the pretext of returning the money borrowed. He was later forced to strip and then was photographed with the woman. She threatened that if not paid Rs 2 lakh, would circulate the photo and embarrass him. When he refused to pay money, embarrassed him by sending the photo to his wife, friends and school group. Rajesh said this led him to take the drastic step.
Thankamani said those responsible for her son's death should be brought before law. She said there is nothing to hide, everyone should know the truth. The family also levelled allegations against the police. The family said the police are not investigating properly. Meantime, the Edakkara police said that an investigation is underway on the complaint filed by Ratheesh' wife and mother.
