THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State vice president R Sreelekha is miffed with the party over the selection of the BJP candidate for the Vattiyoorkavu constituency. The leaders’ version is that she was not offered the mayor’s post as they have plans to field her in Vattiyoorkavu for the assembly polls. However, reports say that during the discussions held the other day, former state president K Surendran expressed his interest in contesting from Vattiyoorkavu.
It is hinted that Sreelekha came to the fore responding publicly after knowing this. The party had considered Surendran for Palakkad. However, those close to Surendran say that if Vattiyoorkavu is not given, he will not contest this time. Surendran is a leader who has contested for the party several times and had increased the number of votes. Therefore, the stand is that this time a constituency with a chance of victory is needed.
However, the leadership was interested in fielding R Sreelekha from Vattiyoorkavu. With the arrival of Surendran, the leadership is in a fix. The official faction offered Sreelekha the mayor’s post. At the last minute, former state presidents intervened for Rajesh.
Sreelekha is also being considered as a candidate in Nedumangad or another constituency in the district. Kummanam Rajasekharan has also expressed interest in contesting from Vattiyoorkavu. Nemom and Vattiyoorkavu are constituencies where the BJP came first in the last parliamentary elections and local body elections.
