ALAPPUZHA: Sriram Venkitaraman has been removed from the post of Alappuzha District Collector. Krishna Teja has been named the new Collector. The government's decision to remove Sriram Venkitaraman from the post of Alappuzha Collector comes in the wake of strong protests by various organizations. The government had already given the instructions regarding this to the Chief Secretary in the evening. Sriram has been appointed as General Manager, Civil Supplies.
The UDF had announced this evening that it will continue the strike until Sriram is removed from the post of the collector. Muslim League district president AM Nazir had alleged that the appointment of Sriram was a disgrace to Alappuzha district and the government's decision to appoint the murder accused as the district collector was a challenge to the people.
Sriram Venkitaraman is accused of his role in the alleged death of journalist K.M Basheer in 2019. In the same case, Sriram has been charge-sheeted for alcohol-impaired driving and trying to distort the evidence.
