THRISSUR: A stray dog that bit an elderly woman to death in Erumapetty was caught and beaten to death. A wildlife conservationist appointed by the Kadangode panchayat authorities caught the dog early Friday morning at around 1:30 am. A test will be conducted to determine whether the dog had rabies.

Karthiyani (84), who was bedridden, was killed in the dog attack at around 6:30 pm Thursday evening. The dog also bit and injured her mentally challenged son Devadasan, who was in the room with her. Karthiyani was bedridden after she fell and broke a bone two years ago.

The incident came to light when Karthiyani's younger son Manikandan came with food for them. He found Karthiyani lying in a pool of blood and Devadasan with severe injuries. Though there were attempts to take her to the hospital, she had lost her life by then. The dog is suspected to have entered through the door that was not locked.

Karthiyani’s another son Satheesh was also living in the same house. The body has been shifted to the mortuary of the Thrissur Medical College. The body will be handed over to her relatives after postmortem.
