Strong winds and rain in these two districts, orange alert issued

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains are continuing to lash various districts of the state. In the next three hours, there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Kannur and Kasaragod and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph. In all other districts, light rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph are likely.


According to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) rainfall forecast for the next few days, orange and yellow alerts have been issued in various districts.


Orange alert
18/08/2025: The IMD has issued an orange alert for Kannur and Kasaragod. There is a possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places. The IMD defines very heavy rainfall that very heavy rain will fall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Yellow alert
18/08/2025: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad
19/08/2025: Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
20/08/2025: The IMD has declared a yellow alert for Kannur and Kasaragod

Isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is received in 24 hours.

Special instructions for public
People living in areas where there is a possibility of landslides, mudslides and mountain floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.

Those living in river banks and downstream areas of dams should also move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities, anticipating the danger.

Those living in disaster-prone areas should ensure that camps are open in their area and move there during the day. For this, they can contact the local body and revenue authorities.

As there is a possibility of strong winds, those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful.

Those who foresee a dangerous situation should contact the authorities and move to safer places as a safety precaution.

They should also be aware of the dangers that may arise due to trees falling and posts falling in the wind.
