Suicide bid by three girls of Sri Chitra Poor Home in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three children of Sri Chitra Home in Thiruvananthapuram attempted suicide. The suicide bid was by girls aged 12, 15 and 16. Two girls are undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and the other at SAT Hospital.

The girls attempted suicide by consuming tablets. They were immediately rushed to the hospital. Two children are undergoing treatment in the 14th ward of the medical college. Sree Chitra Home comes under the state women and child development department.

The three children arrived at the Sri Chitra Poor Home two weeks ago. The girls had been insisting on going home since the day they reached here. The authorities said the health condition of all three is presently satisfactory.

Sri Chitra Poor Home Superintendent Bindu said the three had consumed an overdose of paracetamol and vitamin tablets. The girls who attempted suicide said they were mentally distressed as some of the inmates had teased them.
