KASARGOD: An action committee stepped forward levelling serious allegations against a youth after his wife committed suicide for being accused of theft. The dead is Jaseela (24), daughter of K Y Jaleel and Mumtaz of Nalathadukka Alambady in Vidyanagar. The action committee said that Jaseela's husband had doubts about their children and asked her to get a DNA test done. The action committee also demanded an investigation into the fact that her friend Afreed had borrowed money from Jaseela. The action committee alleged that there was a conspiracy behind Jaseela's death.

Jaseela committed suicide after posting a video asserting her innocence and alleging that she had been humiliated for a mistake she had not committed. The woman has two children, aged six and four.

Jaseela was found to have consumed poison at home on February 15. She died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kasaragod. The magistrate had recorded her confidential statement. The woman's family released her video message after her death. Ayesha and her son, who lived near her husband’s house in Muliyar Povval, had levelled the theft allegation against Jaseela. The complaint was that gold ornaments of 9.5 sovereigns were missing from their house. However, when questioned again, Ayesha complained that 5.5 sovereigns of gold were missing and that Jaseela had taken it.

The Adhur Police then questioned the woman and released her after taking her statement. Jaseela had said that it could be Ayesha's younger son who is behind the theft. Ayesha and her family had gone to Jaseela’s house in Alambady and had created a commotion for the gold. Her family alleged that continued public humiliation and mental harassment forced her to take the extreme step. Jaseela had also said in the video that she tried to file a complaint with the police but they failed to accept it.
