Sujeesh arrived in station with Suriyapriya's phone to surrender; news came out only when police arrived at house

PALAKKAD: The locals came to know about the murder of Suriyapriya (24), a DYFI activist and a native of Konnallur only after the police arrived at the house. Sujeesh (27), a native of Anjumurthimangalam who strangled Suriyapriya to death and went straight to the Alathur police station with her phone and surrendered. Police said that Suryapriya and Sujeesh were in love for a long time. It is indicated that there was some dispute between the two and this may have been the reason for the act.

Sujeesh came to Suriyapriya's house at around 11 am on Wednesday morning when Surya's grandfather Mani, mother Geeta and uncle Radhakrishnan were not at home. After confirming her death he went to the police station with the phone. She was found dead in her bedroom. Suryapriya was the unit secretary of DYFI. She is also a member of Melarkode Panchayat CDS and was an active social worker.
