
KANNUR: CPM leader's slip of tongue while congratulating Kannur Mayor. VK Prakashini, who contested and lost for the post of Mayor, said that she supports corrupt governance. Her speech was that there will be all kinds of support from our side when comprehensive, fair and non-discriminatory 'corruption governance' is seen in Kannur. Prakashini was informed by former mayor and Congress leader T O Mohanan about the slip of tongue, but she explained that she meant corruption-free governance.
Adv P Indira was elected as the Mayor of Kannur Corporation. Indira won from Payyambalam division. P Indira's name was proposed by KP Thahir of the Muslim League. Rijil Makkutty supported her. Indira got 36 votes, while the opposing candidate VK Prakashini of the CPM got 15 votes and Archana Vandichal of the BJP got four votes. Kannur is a corporation where there will be no change of government in the local body elections. The UDF retained power by winning 36 seats in the 56-member corporation.
