THRISSUR: Union Minister Suresh Gopi called the CPM leader 'Makri' (tadpole/toad). The remark was against CPM Kozhikode district committee member PK Divakaran from Vadakara. It was a response to Divakaran's criticism that Suresh Gopi was not effectively performing his duties as Thrissur MP.

"There is a Makri in Vadakara. He whines about the Thrissur MP. A development project worth Rs 95.34 crore was given in Vadakara which right under the nose of that Makri. What more does he need to know? So don't come and poke the Thrissur MP, I will tear them apart," Suresh Gopi said during an election campaign meeting in the Nettissery division of the Thrissur Corporation.

"The issue in the election is not gold or pregnancy. Development should be discussed. Even when K Muraleedharan spoke badly about me, I said, 'It's only Murali Chettan, right?' Why did the copper controversy come up during my election campaign? My opinion is that we should seek votes by promoting development. People only want development issues. SIR should be implemented at any cost. It will be clear who stole the real votes." He said that it will be clear in Bengal too.
