
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The liver of ten-month-old Alin Sherin, who died in a road accident, was successfully transplanted into a six-month-old baby. The hospital authorities said that the baby's health condition is satisfactory. The surgery was conducted at KIMS Health Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
The surgery, which began at 10:30 last night, was completed at 6:00 this morning. The hospital said in a press release that there is good progress in the metabolic factors related to the transplanted liver. Doctors said that the surgery was a great success in the initial stage and the child is under observation.
Ten-month-old Alin Sherin is the youngest donor in the history of organ donation in Kerala. The six-month-old daughter of a couple from Neyyattinkara received the liver. This baby is one of the youngest liver recipients in the state.
The baby was born with a serious liver disease called biliary atresia. Alin Sherin's parents decided to donate the liver as the baby had no other option but to undergo a liver transplant. Meanwhile, Alin Sherin's funeral will be held with official government honours.
