PATHANAMTHITTA: A serious allegation of medical negligence was raised against the government hospital in Pampa. Preetha, a pilgrim from Nedumbassery, alleged that a surgical blade was inserted into a wound in her leg. Preetha filed a complaint with the District Medical Officer. The OP ticket for the treatment sought, and pictures of the blade inserted in the wound, were released.
Preetha was walking with the Thiruvabharanam procession from Pandalam. By the time she reached Pampa, she noticed a blister on her foot. She went to Pampa Hospital to get it treated. After getting her wound bandaged at the hospital, Preetha visited Sannidhanam and had darshan. On her return, she went to the same hospital to get the wound dressed again.
Since it was night, everyone in the hospital was asleep. As per the doctor's instructions, someone came and started bandaging the wound. A suspicious Preetha enquired about his credentials, and the man replied to her that he was a nursing assistant. Preetha felt the treatment was erroneous. After getting home, she felt uneasy and untied the bandage and saw that a surgical blade was stuck in the wound.
Immediately, the Pathanamthitta DMO was informed of the incident, and a complaint was filed. She handed over the OP ticket and other medical records to the DMO. Preetha had also sent the visuals of the blade being stuck in her leg.
