THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister V Sivankutty announced that the syllabus for Class 10 will be reduced by 25 percent from next year onwards. The minister informed this while handing over the keys of the house built by the Kerala State Bharat Scouts and Guides to the family of Mithun, who died of electrocution in Thevalakkara. Three children had submitted a memorandum to the minister demanding that the social science syllabus for Class 10 be reduced.
‘Students have been complaining that Class 10 syllabus is too heavy. So, the syllabus being taught now will be reduced by 25 percent in the next year's syllabus. The curriculum committee has already approved it. While the volume of the syllabus will be cut by 25%, there will be no major change in content, the minister said.
The minister also handed over the keys of the house to Mithun's family. The minister said the house was given to Mithun's family at a time when there were no houses built after collecting money to build the house. He also requested that one of Mithun's parents be given a job at Thevalakkara School. The minister said that he was happy that the work has been completed earlier than expected. Mithun's father received the keys.
A 1000 square feet house with modern facilities including three bedrooms, a bathroom, a reading room and a verandah was completed at a cost of Rs 20 lakh on a four-cent plot owned by Mithun's family. Minister Sivankutty himself laid the foundation stone on August 10, 2025.
