KOCHI: The High Court has said that the 'system' here has adopted an approach tantamount to killing Suraj Lama, who was safely brought to India from Kuwait. The system worked properly in Kuwait, but here Suraj Lama has become an outsider, the division bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice M.B. Snehalatha observed. The court's response was while considering a habeas corpus petition filed by Suraj Lama's son Santon Lama regarding the non-finding of his father.
The body suspected to be that of Suraj Lama was recovered from Kalamassery the other day, but the results of the scientific examination have not been received. The court directed the central government to inform the government about the protocol to be followed when a person is deported from another country. A person can be deported for many reasons, from illness to terrorism. How can it be said that a person who is subjected to this has passed the immigration checkpoints freely?
Lama is said to have memory loss. He was taken to the Ernakulam Government Medical College Hospital. No one has seen him since then. The court ordered the central and state governments to answer what happened to Suraj Lama. A comprehensive report should be submitted. The matter will be considered again on the 10th.
The Aluva DySP, who is leading the court-appointed special investigation team, has filed an interim report. The police alone can be blamed for the disappearance of Suraj Lama, who was brought to the medical college by the police. The hospital authorities should provide an explanation in this regard. Lama landed at Nedumbassery at 2.15 am on October 5. His son, who came from Bengaluru, filed a petition in the High Court after he went missing.
