ALAPPUZHA: Tears of joy filled the eyes of SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan after he learnt that the Indian Republic honoured him with the prestigious Padma Bhushan. Vellappally was participating in the Gurukshetra dedication ceremony at Sree Sarada Centenary Memorial Branch Yogam in SNDP Yogam T.K. Madhavan Memorial Mavelikkara Union No. 6023, when SN Trust Treasurer Dr G. Jayadevan brought him the news.
Vellappally, who learned about the award from the phone handed over by the security officer, shared the happy news with Mavelikkara Union Convener Dr A.V. Anandaraj and Joint Convener Gopan Anjilipra. Anandaraj then did the good work to reach up to the microphone and inform the audience about Vellappally being bestowed with the Padma Award.
Vellappally's eyes filled with joy. He clasped his hands in humility and greeted the audience. Those present on the stage and in the audience paid their respects with applause. Vellappally said he dedicates the award to the noble teachings of Sree Narayana Guru and to his community and leaders who made him who he is now.
Vellappally was then draped with a shawl during felicitation by the Mavelikkara Union under the leadership of A.V. Anandaraj. Those present on the stage paid respect by touching his feet in reverence. The news of Padma Bhushan win comes minutes after Vellappally delivered his inaugural speech, mentioning the support of the community members and the blessings of the Guru as his strength to go forward even at the time of crisis.
