NEW DELHI: Shashi Tharoor MP wants N Sakthan to continue as Thiruvananthapuram DCC president. He said that it is fortunate that Sakthan was appointed as the DCC chairman temporarily. While talking to the media, Tharoor said that he had discussed about the reorganization with KPCC president Sunny Joseph and that issues including the upcoming elections were discussed.
Palode Ravi recently resigned from the DCC president’s post following a controversial phone conversation. Sakthan was appointed to this post temporarily following this. Sakthan, who has held crucial posts earlier, showed great willingness to serve in a small post. So, Tharoor wants Sakthan to continue in the post.
Sunny Joseph held talks with Shashi Tharoor the other day in connection with the reorganization of the party. When Sunny Joseph met the other Congress MPs at the Kerala House in Delhi, he met Tharoor at his residence. Sunny Joseph responded that Tharoor has expressed support for the reorganization. The KPCC president's move comes at a time when the Congress national leadership is neglecting Tharoor. Discussions are progressing in Delhi to decide on the new KPCC office bearers and DCC presidents through consensus. The list is being prepared by opposition leader V D Satheesan and the working presidents after camping there.
There are indications that there is no significant difference of opinion regarding the state office bearers. Meantime, there is a difference of opinion regarding the district presidents of Palakkad, Pathanamthitta and Kasaragod. There may be a change of presidents in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Wayanad. Kodikunnil Suresh MP demanded that Dalit representation be ensured. Ezhava representation is likely to be ensured in Idukki. The final list will be submitted for approval by the high command after a meeting with AICC general secretary K C Venugopal.
