'They took me for prayer, hit me with car after I got suspicious': Imam lodges complaint

KOLLAM: A complaint has been lodged regarding an attempt to kill an imam by hitting him with a car. According to Zafir Saini, imam of Chozhiyakode Juma Masjid in Kulathupuzha, the incident took place at around 8 pm on Tuesday. Police have started an investigation on the basis of CCTV footage.

As per the imam, a young man took him in a car by saying he wants to pray before going abroad. During the journey, four young strangers got into the car. The imam got out of the car and ran after getting suspicious. After this, the youth hit the imam with a car. The footage has been captured on CCTV.

'On the way, the guy who took me got a phone call. He said he wants to pick a few of his friends who were standing there. On reaching the other side of the junction his four companions came. When I saw them, I felt something was off. They had nothing but a mobile phone with them. But I felt a fear in my mind. I said I am not coming and got out of the car and ran. The boy who came first came and forced me to come to the prayer. After that, I only remember coming here.'- the imam said.
