THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Railways has taken a decision on the long-standing demand of passengers from Kerala. The timing of the Kollam-Tambaram Express train will change from September 1. This fulfils the long-standing demand of passengers. The train, which used to depart from Kollam at 12 noon and reach Tambaram in Tamil Nadu at 3.20 am, will now depart at 4 pm and reach Tambaram at 7.30 am.

MPs Kodikunnil Suresh and N.K. Premachandran had earlier written to Union Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw demanding a change in the timings. The new timings will benefit more passengers from Kerala.

It was not possible to add coaches earlier due to platform problems at Egmore. These problems will be resolved by next month. With the transfer of the train to Tambaram, it will be possible to add coaches.

New timings – Kollam – 4.00, Kundara – 4.06, Kottarakkara – 4.15, Auvaneeswaram– 4.28, Punalur – 4.55, Thenmala – 5.43, Aryankavu – 6.13, Sengottai– 7.10, Madurai – 10.25, Dindigul – 11.25, Tiruchirappalli– 1.45, Villupuram – 4.40, Tambaram – 7.30.
