NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has questioned how the accused in the TP murder case can be granted bail, since the incident was a clear case of murder. The court said it needs to see the trial court records related to the case. It also stated that a decision cannot be made without reviewing witness statements. The Supreme Court did not allow the plea for interim bail and postponed the case for further hearing.
It was Jyothibabu, an accused in the TP Chandrasekharan murder case, who approached the Supreme Court seeking bail on health grounds. The hearing saw heated arguments. TP Chandrasekharan’s wife, KK Rema, opposed the bail plea. Her lawyer argued that the state government was “playing hide-and-seek” by not submitting its reply. The state government’s lawyer rebutted that Rema’s accusations were only meant for publicity and asked her side to explain how the government was allegedly hiding.
In her affidavit, KK Rema said the accused have been given unreasonable concessions and that such actions undermine the credibility of the system. She stated that granting bail to the accused would send a dangerous and demoralising message. Rema filed the affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing bail for Jyothibabu.
