TTC student's suicide in Kothamangalam: Family demands NIA investigation, officials probing WhatsApp chats

KOCHI: The family of the 23-year-old TTC student in Kothamangalam, who committed suicide over alleged torture from her boyfriend, demanded an NIA investigation into the case. The student’s family forwarded a letter in writing to the chief minister and the state police chief in this regard. Union ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian visited the victim’s house today. The victim's brother said that Suresh Gopi has assured all necessary legal assistance.

Meanwhile, the police sought information from Ramees’ friend, who was mentioned in the suicide note. He will be taken into custody soon. A move is ongoing to question Ramees further and take him for evidence collection. It is reported that more sections may be imposed after the results of the scientific examination of Ramees’ mobile phone surface out.

The TTC student was found hanging at her home last Saturday. After the girl's suicide note came out, the police arrested her boyfriend, Ramees (24), a native of Panayikulam in Paravur taluk. According to the suicide note, the girl was locked in a room and was tortured by Ramees while coercing her to convert religion. Ramees has been charged with abetment to suicide, inflicting bodily harm, and harassment by promising marriage. The brother of the victim raised serious allegations against Ramees for torturing the victim and mentally abusing her.
