THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The preliminary post-mortem report has been released in the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl who died after experiencing breathing issues. According to the report, the child died due to pneumonia. Officials said that the exact cause of death can only be confirmed after the detailed report is released.
The deceased is Aisha Fathima, the two-and-a-half-year-old daughter of Siddique, a native of Chakkipara in Kattakkada. The family had alleged that the child's condition worsened after she was given an injection at Mamal Hospital in Kattakkada. However, Dr Arun Warrier of Mamal Hospital stated there was no medical negligence in the incident
Aisha was one of a pair of twins. She was taken to the hospital after she experienced breathlessness and fatigue. After giving her steam inhalation for breathing difficulty, doctors administered two injections. Soon after this, her condition worsened. She was then immediately shifted by ambulance to Neyyar Medicity, but doctors there confirmed her death.
"The child was already experiencing severe breathing difficulty when she was brought to the hospital. Adrenaline was administered as a life-saving measure due to her worsening condition. The child had a slight pulse when she was shifted to Neyyar Medicity," said Dr Arun Warrier.
However, the family maintains that serious lapses on the part of the hospital led to the child’s death. The family has filed a complaint with the police against Mamal Hospital. Police have recorded the statement of Aisha’s father and started an investigation. Various political parties have also staged protests over the incident.
