Unabated downpour in Thiruvananthapuram; alert issued in several districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains are continuing unabated in the capital city and several districts of Kerala on Saturday. A yellow alert was issued in seven districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts. Isolated heavy rains are likely. Heavy rains are expected to fall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

In the next three hours, light/moderate rains with thundershowers and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts.

The rain will continue in the coming days. A yellow alert was issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts tomorrow and for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad and Malappuram districts the day after. A yellow alert is in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Indian Meteorological Department announced that fishing should not be allowed off the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts from today until Monday, and that there is no restriction on fishing off the Karnataka coast today.
